Sidoarjo, Ursuline Campus – Sanmarist, SD Santa Maria Sidoarjo consistently supports the development of students' creativity through various engaging extracurricular activities. One of the activities at SD Santa Maria Sidoarjo is the Broadcasting extracurricular program, which is attended by students from grades 1 to 6. This program aims to introduce students to the world of visual communication and digital media from an early age.
A few months ago, the Broadcasting extracurricular program conducted a special activity, namely a competition to create flyers and advertisements using the Canva application. This activity was divided into two groups: lower grades (grades 1-3) and upper grades (grades 4-6). Each group was given the opportunity to express their ideas and creativity in designing attractive and informative visuals.
The activity received tremendous enthusiasm from the students. Even though they are still in the learning phase, the children managed to utilize various features available in the Canva application, such as font selection, color adjustments, image additions, and other design elements.
With guidance from extracurricular mentors, lower-grade students focused on simple designs that highlighted their visual creativity. Meanwhile, upper-grade students were challenged to create advertisements with more mature and communicative concepts. This activity not only honed their technical skills in designing but also trained their critical thinking and teamwork abilities.
This activity provided many positive benefits for students, including: Enhancing Creativity (to express their ideas in the form of visual designs), Introduction to Technology ( to become more familiar with digital technology), Improving Communication Skills (to deliver messages effectively), Building Self-Confidence (to became mo confident in joining the competition).
After the assessment process conducted by the extracurricular mentor, Mr. Charles, one winner was selected for each category: flyer and advertisement. The assessment criteria included creativity, clarity of message, and proper use of design elements.
The winners of the competition are as follows:

Advertisement Competition:
The announcement of the winners was enthusiastically received by all participants. This achievement is expected to motivate students to continue creating and developing their interests in creative media.
Through this activity, SD Santa Maria Sidoarjo hopes that students will continue to develop their potential in the field of digital media and become a creative generation ready to face technological advancements in the future.
Congratulations to the winners and all Broadcasting extracurricular participants who took part! Keep up the spirit to create and innovate!
